In the name of God, the most gracious, the most merciful
Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Press Release
April 18, 2023 AD
Since the first day of the confrontations between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the rebel Rapid Support Forces, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been receiving many communications from diplomatic missions, United Nations organizations and regional organizations accredited to the Republic of Sudan, stating that their headquarters and the residence of their employees have been stormed, assaulted, and intimidated by ambassadors, diplomats and employees in an act that is inconsistent with Vienna Treaty on Diplomatic and Consular Relations 1961 and 1963, to which the Republic of Sudan is fully committed.
In the interest of the Ministry of the security and safety of these diplomatic missions, and consistent with its duty entrusted to it, it immediately informed the competent authorities in the country of these violations, which in turn hastened to strengthen the guards on these diplomatic headquarters in light of the circumstances the country is going through. However, the desperate movements of the rebel Rapid Support Forces with armored vehicles and heavy weapons amid residential neighborhoods and civilian places have posed, and still do, a constant threat to public safety and security in general, and have placed the headquarters and staff of diplomatic missions and international and regional organizations in imminent danger.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while condemning this behavior, which is criminalized and prohibited by international charters, treaties and diplomatic norms, expresses its deep regret and deep dissatisfaction with the rapid support forces’ rebellious actions against such illegal and immoral violations. The Ministry calls on embassies and diplomatic, international and regional missions to take caution and immediately report such events, and warns against harming the headquarters of diplomatic missions, their employees, and international and regional organizations, as this is prohibited according to international laws and the Vienna Treaty on Diplomatic and Consular Relations.
